Baja Bev Seltzer is a retired commercial fisherman, life-long sportfishing enthusiast and author of the book The Lady and the Lingcod. She was born in Beverly Hills, and began sportfishing as a child in the waters off southern California. Between 1989 and 1996 she fished several commercial vessels from central California to Seattle, targeting salmon, lingcod, rockfish, halibut and albacore. This period also included tuna longlining off Hawaii, trolling on the Midway albacore grounds, a couple months in Alaska, and occasional deck-handing on “party boats”. These days Bev is encouraging women to catch the sportfishing fever, and working with industry manufacturers to create new products with women in mind. She is also currently organizing events and tournaments geared towards women and couples.

From Alaska to Panama Bev has fought most of the predominant saltwater big game species both for fun, and in major tournament competition. Some of her favorite fish to battle are, tuna, yellowtail, dorado, wahoo, halibut, rockfish and lingcod. In 2006 she received her first line class IGFA record for a 20 pound yelloweye rockfish caught in British Columbia. In October 2006, Bev received the all tackle IGFA record for a 1lb, 2oz Gopher Rockfish caught at Pidgeon Point, California.
