Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Someone told me that the Cooler/Lunchbox can be attached to the Backpack somehow. How?
A: Yes, both the Lunchbox and the Small Reel Transport can be attached to the Backpacks or Altunative bags. To do this, first remove the Shouler Strap from the Backpack or Bag. Cinch the shoulder strap down as short as possible. Then place the Lunchbox or Reel Transport on top of the bag you want to attach to. Lay the Shoulder Strap over the Lunchbox and let the buckle ends dangle over the sides and connect them up with their respective connectors. Before clipping them together, note the velcro loops located on the sides of the Lunchbox or Reel bag. Open the loops and run the shoulder strap through each loop on each side. Then attach the clips back to the bag. |
Q: I see that you make a Jig Keeper? Did you copy that from George Zanatta who made the original Jig Keeper product?
A: George and I met a few years back and came to an agreement in which Albackore pays a royalty to George for each Jig Keeper sold. I liked his specific design so much that I wanted to produce the item under tha Albackore brand and paying a license fee was the best method. See the History of the Jig Keeper. |
Q: My Backpack (or Altunative Bag) has these strange loops sewn on top of the lid. What are they used for?
A: Those loops were originally intended to carry a folding camping chair on the face of the backpack. A pair of velcro loops were included with each bag for that purpose. Eventually the loops changed style and we added additional ones all over the bags. They are currently designed to secure the bag to a solid surface using a bungee cord or rope. |
Q: Hey, my Backpack tips over in heavy seas. What's the deal with that?
A: Prior to the Albackore Backpack, the only vertical soft-sided bags on the market carried only four utility boxes. Many anglers had wished to carry an additional utility box. That's when we came up with including five boxes inside the backpack and that makes it talled and susceptible to tip, especially when not loaded properly. If you want five boxes, you'll need the extra height - it's just plain physics and there's no getting around it. |
Q: I went mountain climbing in the Andes the other day. Your Fish Klip Carabineer didn't hold up and I broke my neck. What can I do?
A: The Fish Klip Carabineer is a Keychain, NOT a real mountaineering carabineer. Warnings etched into our carabineer note that this item should not be used for climbing. This carabineer would be better used to hold keys, a flashlight, knife, or other small items. Personally, I clip a towel to it and then hang it on my belt loop to wipe my hands when I catch all those big fish. If you can't catch fish, then this would serve no purpose. |
Q: I heard that you did a review of the new Shimano Evair Boots. Do you still have that available to look at?
A: Yes, you can find that review HERE. |
Q: What's the difference between your Version 1 stuff and the current product?
A: The Version 1 or 2 are just prior styles of existing products. Often we incorporate running changes in all of our products, but when there's a significant style change, we will create a new version. The Version 1 Reel Bags have a different carrying handle location and the orientation of the reels are different when being transported.

Q: Should I perform any maintenance on my bag or will it just last forever?
A: Yes, I recommend rinsing the exterior of your soft tackle goods after each and every fishing trip. Allow the product to air dry. I also recommend using a Silicone-Based spray lubricant on your exterior zippers at least once or twice per year. |
Q: My bag is looking old. What can I do to restore the color?
A:To maintain the clean, crisp look of your Albackore soft-sided tackle bags, you can use a product such as Armor All on the exterior. Make sure you bag is clean and dry before applying the Armor All. |
Q: How much tackle can I load in to my bag or backpack?
A: The Albackore Backpacks are rated to carry up to 50 pounds of fishing tackle. The Altunative Bag is rated to carry up to 35 pounds of fishing tackle. |
